The Facts About Memory Foam

Posted by Dana Brett under Mattress

We’ve all heard about how great memory foam mattresses and other products are. Many people would swear by them and the fact they have helped them get a better night’s sleep, but why is it so important to get a good night’s sleep? We’ve all had our parents nag us at one stage or another about this, but they never really go in to details about what could happen.

Sound sleep

However, a lack of sleep can be very dangerous. The number one cause of traffic accidents, with a number of these being fatal, is sleepiness; and this doesn’t just mean accidents at night. If you haven’t had a good night’s sleep you can find it difficult to stay awake and alert during the day, which can cause your concentration to lapse and those split seconds can cause an accident. It’s important to get an excellent night’s sleep and using a memory foam mattress can aid in this.

Sleep deprivation can also have an impact upon your health. You can impair your immune system meaning you don’t have the defences you should have against disease. You can also damage your heart or cause you to put on weight. Using memory foam products, like a pillow or memory foam mattress, not only will encourage a better night’s sleep, but will also help you stay fit and healthy.

Sleep deprivation studies have also shown our moods, memory and even sanity can be affected from a lack of sleep. With all this in mind, isn’t it time to listen to your mum and get that decent night’s sleep she was always nagging you to get? Not only will you feel better but you can say you are helping your health by sleeping! Not only is the memory foam mattress great for a comfortable night’s sleep it is also helping us to stay focused and on track while we are awake. Visit www.memoryfoammattressdirect.co.uk to find out more about the benefits of memory foam, and how it can help you get that vital rest.

Posted by Dana Brett under Home Office

Whether it is working at home or in the office, it is important to be comfortable and to have everything you need at your disposal and that means having decent desks. Therefore it is essential that you can purchase the office furniture you need to improve your working environment.

Right Desk

But choosing a desk can be no easy task, as with the growth in demand for desks over the years, so have the range of designs expanded. Desks typically are modified tables generally designed for only one person to sit at and rarely more. They usually come with at least one draw and their purposes being for reading, writing or using a computer upon. It’s these factors you should take in to account when shopping for new desks.

Furthermore, it is important to consider who is going to use the desk whether they will be office workers or children. Especially as children and teenagers will tend to test desks to their limits, discovering any design floors early on. Whereas in an office you will no doubt require a desk with a lot of storage space for storing files and other resources. Other factors to be aware of are, the quality of the product, making sure that it will last and that there are spare parts available or even an extended warranty. Moreover, it can be important that the desk is aesthetically pleasing, as the desk can reflect upon the person behind it and can be especially important in an office environment. Decorating Your Bedroom

Posted by Dana Brett under Bedroom Furniture

When redecorating a home, the bedroom is of primary concern. You want a place that is relaxing, stylish and luxurious, but this can be a challenge to pull off for those of us who aren’t used to doing our own interior design, and who don’t want to break the bank on expensive furniture and decoration. This article will provide you with a few tips to help you create the bedroom of your dreams!

Bedroom Decor

First of all, colour is one of the most basic yet most readily forgotten aspects of bedroom décor. A great many people start out with good intentions and go wild with their colour scheme, only to find themselves with bedrooms that look mismatched in the end. It’s important to choose a few key colours and stick to them. A failsafe way to make the room look stylish and co-ordinated is to decorate mainly in neutral colours and pick out two or three “accent” colours for accessories. Colours such as turquoise and coral both contrast nicely with neutrals, and you can pick these out as accents in bedding, cushions and wallpaper to tie the room together.

Pay attention to your windows and blinds. Many people focus on the most obvious part of the bedroom, which is the bed, by choosing one with an intricate frame and adorning it with fancy bedding, and neglect the rest of the room -including the windows, blinds, curtains, and carpets. Paying extra attention to selecting items that match your colour scheme in these areas will help your bedroom look like something you planned out from the start rather than something you built around your bed at the last minute.

Before you go shopping, have a look around your house to see if there is anything you already own that you can use in the bedroom. The most interesting and heart-warming accessories will be things that have personal meaning to you, rather than things you just picked up in a shop. For example, if you have nice cups that are gathering dust in a cupboard, give them new life by bringing them into the bedroom as candle holders. You can take the coloured marbles you collected in your childhood and fill entire glasses with them. Look for memorabilia and random collectibles and create your own style in what should be your own bedroom.

For centuries, the high cost of traditional velvet put the fabric out of the reach of all but the very rich and privileged. Traditionally made with costly silk and constructed with complex weaving techniques, velvet curtains were used to denote wealth as much as taste. Today, modern technologies and synthetic fabrics have made velvet drapes affordable for everyone, opening up new opportunities to decorate with the rich-looking but inexpensive fabric.

Velvet Curtains

Much of the appeal of velvet comes from the sheen of the richly piled fabric. Velvet interplays with light to create waves of luminous colour, contrasted by deep shadows of darker shades. This reflective quality adds a feeling of depth and richness to draperies, enveloping a room with a sense of comfort and confidence.

Swagged, draped and tied-back velvet draperies remain the designer’s choice for rooms decorated in a highly ornate, traditional style. Few fabrics are as effective in decorating windows that complement the opulence of richly appointed rooms as velvet. High-style window treatments using velvet may be further embellished with intricate embroidery, corded trims and fringe.

The sensuous look and feel of velvet makes the fabric a popular choice for rooms decorated in a romantic style. Whether the desired look is for a period style like Elizabethan, Edwardian or Victorian, or for a fantasy look torn from the pages of a favourite novel, velvet drapes conjure up images of luxury and passion. For pure romance, it’s hard to beat the dreamy effect of velvet draped over sheer organza panels.

Theatres have long recognized the effectiveness of velvet in theatrical curtains, for the sense of luxury they add to the décor, for the quality of the fabric’s drape and for the way the fabric blocks backstage light and noise from reaching the audience. Modern homeowners often choose velvet curtains to block out light and reduce noise as well. Velvet drapes are not only an excellent choice for blackout curtains, they add a layer of insulation to windows as well, reducing heating and cooling costs.

Velvet’s theatrical connotations the fabric a good choice for rooms informed by playful approach to decorating styles. Those who feel free to indulge a sense of humour, as well as a sense of style and creativity, will find multiple applications for velvet drapes. Whether used as a window treatment, room divider or closet screen, velvet draperies, mixed with more casual furnishings, make a statement of playful confidence and self-assurance.

Modern rooms are often decorated in a eclectic style, a style more focused on reflecting personal taste than on adhering to any one particular style of furnishing. Some of the most striking rooms in the eclectic style are those that combine natural materials and colours with interesting textures and accents. Velvet drapes in rich, jewel tones fit perfectly with this approach to decorating, adding a luxurious contrast to natural wood, bamboo and metallic materials. Affordable, durable and versatile, velvet curtains provide opportunities to elevate interiors into something special.

Until the 1980’s it was not unusual to find homes that were constructed with single glazed windows, hence the popularity of double glazing fitting is one that still continues to go from strength to strength. These older homes will benefit hugely from having double glazing fitting, as will the residents of them who will find their homes warmer, more comfortable to live in and their bills more manageable as a result of having double glazing fitted.

Double Glazed Windows

While the initial outlay of double glazed windows may seem like a vast expense it is one that will provide savings for many many years to come. This means that the outlay is a fantastic investment and one that will pay for itself, sometimes may times over, over the length of it’s life.

Windows and doors are the more common source of heat loss and for the vast majority of homes they will be the biggest loss also. If your home is not well insulated and has old, single glazed, often draughty windows, then it is not unusual for up to twenty percent of your heat to be lost through your windows and doors. As double glazing will provide a tighter fit, with two or even three (triple glazing) layers of glass this will prevent the majority of heat loss from occurring in the future. This will mean that it is much easier to keep your home warm and will cost significantly less, particularly during the crippling Winter months.

The way that double glazing works is by having two panes of glass, both held in place by the window frame, and these will have a small air gap between them. This will allow a barrier of insulation between the warm, comfortable air of your home and the wind and cold outside. As single glass is just one glazed pane this will not benefit from having an insulating barrier and will therefore be much less effective at keeping your home warm and the cold air at bay.

If your home is well insulated, with solid quality double glazing, this will in turn save you money. You will no longer be spending as much money on heating your home and you will find that your gas & electricity bills will fall as a benefit of this. How much money you will save is dependant on the kind of windows you have fitted, the amount of windows you have and the size of your home but everyone having quality double glazing fitted will see a decrease in their cost of living. This is particularly important when gas and electricity prices are constantly rising and show no signs of stopping.

Using less energy to warm up your home will also allow you to do your little bit for the environment. Less energy used means that you will have a smaller carbon footprint and will be saving yourself money in the process. This overall makes double glazing a fantastic purchase, despite the initial outlay. Your home will be warmer, for less money and you will soon be reaping the benefits.

Chandeliers are all-time favourites when it comes to adding a classical and aesthetic touch to your dining room. From minimum fluted chandeliers to opulent hanging chandeliers this decorative silhouette makes a bold statement. Shape of a chandelier makes a point. You may think of buying crystal shaped glasses, round -shaped or a thin candle like chandelier.

Colour of chandelier is also an important aspect to notice.  Since chandeliers provide a focal point of a room they can very much complement wall and furniture colours as well.  If you have an old and mismatched chandelier you can paint with fresh colour and replace old bulbs with new one.
