The leather look

Posted by Dana Brett under Home Furniture

Leather will always be a brilliant sofa choice, but is it right for you?  Versatile in style leather sofas can bring a traditional look to your room. Opt for button backs and studded arms if this is what you’re looking for. At the same time choosing leather can provide you with a stylish modern sofa. Plain and simple designs will create the most modern look.

Leather Sofa

It is a misconception that looking after leather is a laborious and difficult task. If you take the time each week to give it a gentle wipe down, or you can even vacuum it to remove built up dirt, the quality will remain the same. Another thing that can put people off buying a leather sofa is cost. It is important to remember good quality leather will last a long time. This means it will be many years before you have to pay out for a new one, unless you decide it’s time for a change of style!

Whether you choose a traditional or modern designer settee, leather will always be in fashion and brings effortless style to a room.

Tips for looking after a leather sofa

  • Before using any leather products on your stylish couch try a small amount on an area that is not easily seen. If the product is wrong for your settee you won’t have ruined it.
  • Always use products specially designed for leather. Other cleaning agents may be too harsh and will spoil its condition.
  • Never scrub your couch always use a gentle wiping motion when cleaning it.
  • Avoid places it too near any kind of heat. This may cause the leather to crack or fade.

Leather, in the right environment and with the right care, can give you years of enjoyment and pride.

How to Accessorize Your Bathroom?

Posted by Dana Brett under Bathroom Furniture

People are always busy wondering how they will decorate their bedroom or living, but they seldom consider the bathroom to be an important place. Bathroom is indeed an important place of your home. It is the place where you relax lying in the bath tub after a tiring day. So the décor and atmosphere of your bathroom should be relaxing.

bathroom accessories

Just like you buy accessories for other rooms of your house, you should also buy accessories for your bathroom. The accessories you will buy depend on your bathroom décor. The color and material used in the bathroom will set the tone. First choose the color scheme of your bathroom such as blue, lavender, white or green duo. Then choose accessories that will enhance your bathroom décor.

Follow the instructions given below to know how to accessorize your bathroom.

Shower Curtain: It is one of the most crucial bathroom accessories that come in various styles, colors and materials. A while curtain can be ideal for a vintage bathroom whereas a bright colored curtain is just perfect for a rainforest theme. If you want a shabby chic style for your bathroom you can choose pink shower curtains. Make sure you hang the curtains from stylish hooks. Lily or rose shaped hooks will be fine.

Towels and Towel Holders: Colorful towels are also a nice way to accessorize your bathroom. For a romantic theme you can choose pink, mauve or chocolate brown towels. You can roll them on wall shelves or hang them from towel rail radiator.

Rugs: Rugs are a great way to enhance the floor. A red heart shaped rug can be perfect for a bathroom with a romantic theme whereas a woven bamboo rug can be ideal for a bathroom with a rustic theme.

Other than these major thing you can also keep a flower vase, mirror, soap holder, wastebasket etc to accessorize your bathroom.

When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, it’s easy to understand why most people believe that flat, level beds are the best choice.
After all, they are the norm all over the world. In reality, a significant proportion of the population would get a great deal of benefit from switching to adjustable electric beds instead.

Unlike the traditional variety, modern electric beds can be carefully repositioned so that they precisely match your ideal sleeping position. They can be altered to reduce the amount of pressure you feel on your back or any other painful part of your body, to increase or decrease the amount of blood circulating to certain limbs or generally provide a level of comfort that would be impossible to achieve by any other means.

Anyone who has ever spent a night in a cheap hotel or tried to grab a few hours of kip on a lumpy sofa knows exactly how important it is to feel comfortable to get the most out of your rest time, but unless they own beds that are in extremely poor condition, few people consider that their own choice of bed could be the cause of their night time discomfort or insomnia.

According to the British Sleep Council, beds should be changed every ten years, but most people won’t even consider replacing a bed unless something goes wrong with it. Losing or gaining weight, getting married or simply getting older can all alter a person’s bed and mattress requirements, yet much of the time these changing needs are totally ignored. Although a bed may be ideal at first, over time it will lose its ability to provide the correct amount of support, but because these changes happen slowly, they can easily be missed.

A flat bed that is too soft will cause your body to slouch and place your spine out of alignment. A flat bed that is too hard will not allow you to fully relax and release any built-up tensions in your muscles. Too firm a bed can also lead to soreness or discomfort through the formation of pressure points.

Although electric beds are best known for the huge benefits they offer to those suffering from back problems or arthritis, they can also be of great comfort to people suffering from a wide range of other conditions. If you find your sleep being regularly disturbed because of pins and needles from swollen feet, an electric bed will allow you to elevate them to a position that provides enormous relief. Whilst the same effect could be achieved by placing your feet on pillows, shifting around during the night could easily dislodge them. Because the whole lower portion of an electric bed would be raised, it offers a far more reliable solution to the problem.

An adjustable electric bed can also make it far easier and more comfortable to read, use a laptop or even watch television. Whilst some experts say that beds should be reserved for sleep and nothing else, anyone living in a smaller space may already find their bedroom has become multi-functional and this will only make life easier. A mattress that adjusts in this way can also make life far more pleasant for the elderly or infirm who are forced to spend long hours in bed.

Remove and replace – This is a tactic you need to apply depending on space availability and utility of your bathroom.  Replace the sink first. If your bathroom sink has a big counter and a cabinet underneath it you have to get rid of that. Replace it with pedestal sink and you will discover ample space you never imagined.

Use mirror – it is always wise to hang a big mirror. Large mirror reflect enough space and light. Thus your bathroom will appear big than it is.

Focus on tiling – ceramic tiles are good. You can install them for floor and walls of your bathroom.  Bigger tiles on floor add depth. You can also place a small colourful rug down on the floor. This will give it a sophisticated look.

Keep storage space – cabinets are ideal for this. You can also hang a wall mounted shelves in a corner. Thus you will have more space   yet plenty of room to store bathroom items. If you are looking for variety in cabinets there are free standing cabinet, basin cabinet, mirrored cabinet and more.

Be particular about bathroom furniture – you can install towel rails, concealed toilet cisterns, wall mounted taps, showers towers for added facilities. But be sure they are not consuming much of space.

Know how your radiator will work for you

Posted by Dana Brett under Heating System

Radiators are one of the mostly-used home appliances during monsoon and winter. Whether it is for heating system, for room decoration or for storage purpose – they perform excellent throughout the year. The best thing is that one can choose a variety of radiators for different reasons and requirements. There are designer radiators, floor standing radiators, towel rail radiators, traditional radiators and more. All are meant to perform heat generation activities and add style to your home interiors.

 Radiators

Now before you think of buying one for your own home you should know how radiators work and generate heat.  This will help you identify best quality products from the best suppliers in the UK.

To start with there are 3 basic types of radiators that are common in use. We will see how each of them functions to generate heat and keep rooms cosy.

Steam radiators – these are traditional radiators powered by steam or boiled water. They are also energy efficient and easy to maintain. First, a boiler in basement of building heats water in high pressure condition. Thus water turns into gas and flow up through steam tubes into radiator.  This heat gets transferred into the metal which in turn warms the room. Finally when the water gets cooler it flows back to the boiler to get re-heated.

Electric radiators – This in comparison to previous one is powered by a heating element. The element is actually a specialised resistor that restricts the flow of electricity passing through it. Thus it generates heat which transmit through oil suspensions and finally warm up the metal body of the radiators and the room.

Radiators using convection current – here the fins of radiator heat the air molecules around it and thus help them expand.  As hot air expands it creates a vacuum. This vacuum pulls out cold air from surroundings and then warms it in same fashion. This continuous stream of air is called convection current that helps disperse the heat throughout the room.

However there is another common process called Infrared radiation. Here any object that comes in contact of infrared radiation gets heated. The process is similar to air heated by fireplace in a room.

Now when you are convinced about how radiators would function, it is easy to choose a radiator supplier also. If you are not biased to any brand try out radiatorcentre.com. They are one of the largest radiator suppliers in the UK.

Like almost all of the women I know I love buying shoes, they always fit me no matter how much I’ve been eating.  However, finding shoe storage for wardrobes is difficult, there’s not a lot of choice in most ready made standard wardrobes & I’m not keen on any of the separate options available (am I actually going to put my shoes away in plastic boxes & take them out every time I use them?) Which is why wardrobes from Italy are my current obsession, with their truly fabulous storage options. I’ve seen three different kinds of shoe storage so far & my favourite is the one that comes with walk in wardrobes from Tempo – a shoe cupboard with a mirrored door. They take up a fair amount of room (they are about 2 & a half feet wide & 5 ft tall), but inside are rows of specially built shelves where your shoes are all nicely lined up. The door is mirrored, so you can see what they look like on!

Shoe Storage for Wardrobes

I also really like the new shoe drawers from Europeo. They are lightweight metal ‘drawers’ with 3 angled rows, & at about 2-3 feet wide & 2 feet deep is about 4-6 pairs of shoes x 3. I would definitely need 2 drawers, but they are an elegant way to keep everything tidy & very easy to use, & shoes are easy to see & get out/put away.  The last option is really useful if you haven’t got that much room, & is just basically pull out wire chromed racks that are fastened to the inside of your wardrobe, down near the bottom in the space where clothes are hanging. Each rack has 3 rows of 60cm (the depth of the wardrobe) & you pull them out to see the rows of shoes.  Any of these options are miles ahead of the rubbish shoe storage that is widely available, so I’m saving up for a posh wardrobe..shoes are expensive & having them jumbled in the bottom of my current wardrobe is not good for them!
